Wind tunnel facilities

Facilities

In addition to building L2|06 on Lichtwiese Campus, the wind tunnel and its facilities is the second location of the Institute for Fluid Mechanics and Aerodynamics.

Initially, the wind tunnel was planned for the city center but was built in Griesheim 1935-37 close to the August Euler Airfield. The proximity to both the airfield and the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS) at that time was seen as an advantage.

The wind tunnel remained intact throughout World War II. Since 1955 several new buildings and facilities have been constructed around it. The present facilities include:

Wind tunnel premises

  • Low-speed wind tunnel
  • Eiffel type wind tunnel
  • Trisonic wind tunnel
  • Mechanical workshop
  • Electronics workshop
  • Lab and office building

August Euler Airfield

  • Control tower building
